Bloom tags and holds pre-orders at checkout. Orders that skip that path - draft orders, POS, imports, or a theme without the Bloom embed - arrive untagged and unheld. Mark them from the order page in Shopify admin and Bloom treats them like any other pre-order.

Steps

  1. In Shopify admin, open Orders and select the order.
  2. Click More actions → Mark as pre-order.
  3. Tick the lines that were sold as pre-orders. Lines Bloom sees as in stock show In stock and start unticked.
  4. Click Mark as pre-order.
  5. Check the result, then click Done.
The window warns you before you confirm. It flags another hold on the order, ticked lines that aren’t on pre-order right now, and a plan allowance you’d go over. It also states whether your split orders setting holds the whole order or only the pre-order lines.

What happens

  • Fulfilment is held. Bloom places a hold on the fulfilment orders containing the ticked lines. With split orders on, other items can ship now.
  • The order is tagged. Bloom adds Pre-order, either Pre-order: All items or Pre-order: Some items, and Pre-order: Marked. See the pre-order data reference.
  • Release works as normal. Bloom checks the order for release like a checkout pre-order. In-stock lines release at the next stock check, before newer pre-orders.
  • It counts once. The order uses your plan’s pre-order allowance once, in the period you mark it, and only when its subtotal is above $0.
  • The customer isn’t emailed. Bloom doesn’t notify the customer. Contact them yourself if they need to know.
If Bloom can’t place the hold straight away, the window shows Marking order as pre-order. Bloom retries within about 10 minutes, then tags and bills the order once the hold is in place.

When you can mark an order

The order must meet all of these conditions:
  • It isn’t cancelled
  • At least one line still has quantity left to fulfil
  • Bloom doesn’t already treat it as a pre-order
  • Your store has an active Bloom plan
  • Bloom has the fulfilment permissions it needs - if not, open Bloom in Shopify admin and approve its updated permissions
Each line must also have a product variant, have inventory tracking on, and have quantity left to fulfil. Lines that fail show the reason: Nothing left to fulfill, No product variant, so Bloom can’t track it or Inventory isn’t tracked, so Bloom can’t release it.
