# FAQ

> Answers to common Bloom questions on Shopify: pre-order overselling, deposits, mixed-cart shipping, automatic restock alerts, Klaviyo setup, and how Pre-order and Notify Me work together.

Quick answers to the questions merchants ask most. Each links to the full guide.

## Pre-order

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How do I stop selling more pre-orders than I can fulfil?">
    Set an **Oversell limit** on the variant. Bloom stops accepting pre-orders once that many are placed, so inventory only goes as far negative as you allow. See [Configure a pre-order product](/bloom/pre-order/product-config).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I take a deposit or charge customers later?">
    No. Bloom charges the full price at checkout - it doesn't take deposits, split payments, or charge-later. The pre-order is a normal Shopify order, paid in full now.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can orders with pre-order and non-pre-order items be shipped all at once?">
    Yes. Leave Shopify's split shipping off and the whole order ships together once every item is ready. Turn it on and in-stock items ship now while pre-order items follow. See [Split orders](/bloom/pre-order/split-orders).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do I tell customers when the ship date changes?">
    Update the ship message in Bloom - the order note and the customer's order status page update. Updates are sent to Shopify & Klaviyo to trigger comms. See [Updating pre-order info on existing orders](/bloom/pre-order/updates).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does pre-order switch off automatically when stock arrives?">
    Yes. When inventory goes back above zero, the variant sells normally again - no need to disable anything. See the [Pre-order overview](/bloom/pre-order/overview).
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Notify Me

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Are customers notified automatically when the product is back in stock?">
    Yes. When the variant restocks, Klaviyo triggers your back-in-stock flow and sends the alerts. You control the timing and channels in the flow. See [Set up the back-in-stock flow](/bloom/notify-me/flow).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do I need Klaviyo, and where are sign-ups stored?">
    Yes - sign-ups are stored in Klaviyo, not in Bloom, as back-in-stock subscriptions. See [Connect Klaviyo](/bloom/notify-me/connect-klaviyo) and [Notify Me sign-ups in Klaviyo](/bloom/notify-me/notify-me-sign-ups).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I notify customers by SMS as well as email?">
    Yes. Klaviyo sends both - you pick the channels in your flow. SMS only reaches subscribers in Klaviyo's [supported countries](https://help.klaviyo.com/hc/en-us/articles/7951291970331). See [Notify Me overview](/bloom/notify-me/overview).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why aren't customers getting back-in-stock alerts?">
    Notify Me sends nothing until you've created the [back-in-stock flow](/bloom/notify-me/flow). Sign-ups are captured when you [Connect Klaviyo](https://help.goodnative.co/bloom/notify-me/connect-klaviyo).
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## General

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What's the difference between Pre-order and Notify Me?">
    Pre-order sells a variant before stock arrives - the customer pays now. Notify Me captures interest on a sold-out variant and emails the shopper when it returns - no sale until then. See the [Pre-order](/bloom/pre-order/overview) and [Notify Me](/bloom/notify-me/overview) overviews.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A variant is out of stock - does it show Pre-order or Notify Me?">
    By default it shows both. You can turn on *Hide notify me if product on pre-order* in [Notify Me settings](/bloom/notify-me/settings#hide-notify-me-if-product-on-pre-order).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Does a Notify Me sign-up reserve or hold the item?">
    No. Notify Me only captures interest - it doesn't hold stock, and signing up doesn't guarantee the shopper gets one. To let customers buy ahead of stock, use [pre-order](/bloom/pre-order/overview) instead.
  </Accordion>
